Laser Hair Removal, Is it Right For You?
There are many things to consider when answering that question. Some of those concerns are color of hair, volume of hair, thickness of hair, skin color, and the particular area of body chosen for hair removal. Laser is not always the best method of permanent hair removal. One example would be a darker skinned person with thin wispy hair you’re not going to get great results. Same is true if your hair is Red, Blonde Gray or White.
In order for a laser to work the hair must have melodine which is color. The color is the target for the laser. Laser is a light beam of energy which is attracted to the color and is absorbed into the pigment and that is what destroys the hair.
For the optimal results for laser hair removal, contrast is the key, dark hair and light skin. Laser at the very best does about 89% of permanent hair removal and that is why it is called permanent hair reduction. Electrolysis is permanent hair removal and 100 % effective. That is because there are no affecting factors about skin color, hair color, hair volume, thickness of hair etc. The negative aspect to Electrology is that it takes substantially more time. Generally 3-4 seconds per hair to treat. Laser on the other hand allows the hair removal specialist the ability to remove the greatest amount of hair in the least amount of time. Both services only work on actively growing hair and then another series of treatments are called for. There is no quick fix for removal of hair.
Personalized knowledge of your needs and desires.
Going to a licensed certified hair removal specialist, which is a clinical and medical Electrologist, allows you to know that it is their life profession and they are specializing hair removal. Not the nurse and the spas they are not formally trained on lasers. They are not required by law to be trained in hair removal they are not even required to be trained on the use of lasers. Bottom line as an example, If a woman has a few hairs scattered on her chin it doesn’t deem a laser usually. Or has had sun exposure then that is where Electrology is more appropriate. Many people have mixed hair, gray with dark hair, if the majority of the hair is gray then laser would not be appropriate and electrolysis would bring the best results.
Best value is always with a hair removal specialist and we offer free consultations for all the services we offer. Our philosophy is such that the client’s needs are the items of importance. We do not take everyone who comes through our door and make them laser clients. To properly evaluate what is best for you it is imperative to set up a free consultation to best determine the best and proper way to remove your unwanted hair. While it is best to have your evaluation in person Karen can help guide you either through contact over the phone or via email. Since 1982 Karen began her profession in beauty she has continued in education in all aspects of beauty and in 1993 began her pursuit in permanent hair removal and permanent cosmetics, in 2001 became a National Certified Board Laser Specialist. The most important decision you can make for yourself is to send the email, make the call 727-398-4187 for a mini phone consultation or better yet make the appointment for your free consultation.
Best results occur in those with light skin and dark hair, and hair removal works better on coarse hair rather than fine hair. However it is best to get a consultation so an expert can give you their opinion.
What is involved with laser hair removal?
The area is shaved and cleaned, and sometimes an anesthetic cream is applied. The laser then produces pulsed beams of highly concentrated light which is absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles, damaging the surrounding follicle.
The procedure might be lightly uncomfortable, but it is not usually painful. The length of a laser session may be a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated.
Any redness and swelling of the affected areas usually disappears in a short time. And the majority of people return to normal activity right away.
People wonder if there are risks of laser hair removal, is it safe?
Laser hair removal is a safe procedure if carried out by an experienced person.
Possible complications from Lasers include:
- darkening or lightening of the treated skin
- burning/blistering of the treated skin
Since darker skin is more susceptible to changes in pigment, tanning before laser hair removal should be avoided. These complications usually occur when someone who has had too much sun at the time of the treatment get lasered. The provider will be sure to let you know whether or not your skin is ready.
How many laser treatments does it take to get the desired result of no hair?
Most treatments require 2-3 sessions for permanent hair removal in any one area. The procedure can be repeated at monthly intervals.

Did You Know Hair grows in cyclic patterns?
Why is it that several laser hair removal treatments are necessary?
While some hair follicles are actively growing others are resting. Each laser hair removal treatment affects only those hair follicles which are in the active growth phase of their cycle. For this reason it is necessary to have several laser hair removal treatments in order to achieve permanent hair removal. Even with the most thorough laser hair removal specialist some hairs may be missed.
How Safe Is Laser Hair Removal?
I have had extensive training in the use of laser systems and am licensed in the state of Florida. I also regularly update my training in laser hair removal. I carefully follow all state protocols. Under the care of a skilled laser technician, laser treatments are generally safe for all skin types.
Important notice:
Avoid sun exposure 3 weeks prior to treatment is required!
You should be aware many of the spas and dermatologists in Tampa, St. Petersburg, Clearwater, Palm Harbor, New Port Richey and other communities in the Tampa Bay area offer laser hair removal as a service but require you to purchase a package deal or hold you under contracts to return for other services you may not need or be interested in. This is generally the rule of thumb for these types of institutions but it is not necessary. I do not, nor will I ever, require my clients to purchase contract services or pressure sale them on services they do not need or want.
