Areola Micro pigmentation

Permanent cosmetic make up tattooing is commonly used to restore the areola and nipple(s) damaged or removed during
surgical procedures. The natural coloring of the nipple and areola is simulated and the visible surgical scars within the area are camouflaged with skin tone colors. Only when performed by a skilled practitioner, areola micro pigmentation will enhance the illusion of nipple projection or loss of nipple contour.

Areola Micro pigmentation Procedure

The areola micro pigmentation procedure involves areola color, shape and skin tone to match the existing areola. The areola restoration, by means of micro pigmentation, provides the client with a completely new areola shape, form and color. Compared to surgical skin graphs and reconstruction, areola micro pigmentation is more cost effective, less invasive and is a significantly faster procedure. The healing process of cosmetic areola tattooing is also significantly faster.

Who qualifies for Areola Micro pigmentation ?

Micro pigmentation can be applied to the reconstructed nipple areola complex after breast surgery and often times areola micro pigmentation is requested by my clients simply to define, shape and add more color to their areolas due to fading of the areola. Cosmetic areola pigmentation provides a more natural look when using at least two shades of pigment skin tone colors.

Pigments For Areola Micro pigmentation

If the pigment color is too dark it will be extremely difficult to lighten the pigmented site. So it is necessary to blend pigments to match the existing areola as close as possible and darken if necessary on the follow up visit.

The first step in selecting the proper pigments for the areola is the client ! The clients input on how he or she wants their aesthetic outcome to look is vital when constructing the illusion of an areola and nipple. Often times, as mentioned earlier, men and women simply want their areola’s darkened so it is important to discuss with the client the depth of coloring they would prefer and then discuss with them the possibilities of their wishes. Once I have achieved an agreement with my clients I blend a skin tone pigment color matching the most predominately lighter shade of the areola. Then blend a slightly darker shade to concentrate pigment in a stippling effect to mimic the appearance of darker pigmentation. Nipples are generally several shades darker than the areolas. To simulate a nipple that does not exist a halo of clear skin between the nipple and areola is created to give the illusion of a more projected nipple. This is a three-dimensional illusion and will provide the client with the appearance of a natural areola and nipple.

Note: If the client’s skin graft is thin, translucent and has bluish undertones, pigments having a bluish color tone should not be used! These pigment colors will fade to a lighter pink with grayish blue hues and enhance the skin’s blue undertones. The resulting skin tone color will heal too blue or gray. Pigment colors should not be mixed several shades darker to compensate for possible color fading. It is possible the client will have minimal fading and retain all of the original pigments used to create the areola. If the pigmented areola color is too light it can be darkened during the following check up.
